Tip: Understanding the Ten-Digit Batch Code

On the back of each Impossible frame, you'll notice a ten-digit code stamped on the top left side of the chemical pod, called the "batch code". It might be helpful to understand more about the batch code, and how it can be interpreted.

The ten-digit code is represented by five pairs of digits: AABBCCDDEE:

* AA represents the month of manufacture.

* BB represents the year of manufacture.

* CC represents the machine that manufactured the film.

* DD represents the Impossible film type:

  • 70 = PX70 film
  • 80 = PX680 / PZ680 film
  • 32 = PX600 / PZ600 film
  • 02 = PX100 film

* EE represents the exact day of the month that the film was produced.

So a batch code 1011448027 means that the film was manufactured on 27 October of 2011, on a machine at the factory designated by #44, and the film type is a PX680 or PZ680. Of course, the physical dimensions of the frame will obviously indicate which one, specifically.

Thanks to Andreas, Ani and Patrick at Impossible for providing the break-down!

Best wishes!
Tom

Thanks, Tom!

CC represents the machine number and EE represents the exact day of the month of the production run.
