Tips on maintaining the leather on SX-70s

If you have an SX-70 or an SX-70 Sonar OneStep, I'd like to share a couple of tips about maintaining the condition of the leather on those cameras. These two models have a sliver body and either a brown or black leather covering. If you have any other model (including those that have black plastic bodies), these tips don't apply.

  1. For leather that has become discolored, apply shoe-polish that approaches the color of the original finish.
  2. For leather that has become dried out, apply a little lip-balm to the leather and massage it into the leather.

Try it. You'll be surprised at the results. The leather will come back to life!

If the leather can't be saved, consider re-skinning the camera. But try these approaches first, and then decide.
