Hi everyone,

i am new to sx70 and impossible films. So i do not know what could have causes this problems. Is it the roller or the film i am not sure. The sx70, to me is working perfectly, mirror moves, exposure differ when in bright or dark areas. Film ejects as usual. but there is one big problem. Which is the undeveloped brown patch in the center of all my 8 shots. How i know its undeveloped? Because after 2 shots i got unhappy with the results so i pulled out the pack in the sx70 to check what is wrong, I saw 2 different shade or tones on the undeveloped film still in the cartridge. (Please see attached photos and you will know what i meant. I love how the sx70 works, its really a masterpiece. So i decided to try it with the impossible film. And my first attempt wasn't a successful one. Hope you guys out here with much more experience with impossible films and sx70 can clear my doubts. Thanks a million.

Hi -

Your post didn't mention which film you are using, but I'm guessing that it's not one of the "Poor Pod" films that Impossible sold. Those were only offered for a short time at a discounted price. Presuming this isn't film from the "Poor Pod" offering, then the most likely answer is that the rollers in your camera aren't applying the right pressure. The most common problem is when residue accumulates on the left-and right sides of the rollers. Over time, the residue can build up and cause separation between the rollers.

Open the camera door and look down on the rollers, especially the right and left ends. If you see "gunk" there, you should clean the rollers. I use a cotton swab soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol, and manually rotate the rollers to remove any accumulations. Once the rollers are clean, try taking a few more photos.

If you continue to have the problem, then you may need to have the camera serviced to adjust the rollers, or to replace the entire front door with a new assembly.

Good luck!
Tom

Hi Lee,

From your attached images, it looks like the undeveloped patch is in the same shape on every photo. Is there something wrong with your camera's rollers, that you can see? Is there any buildup on the rollers that may be causing uneven pressure on the images? You mentioned that you took the pack out of the camera. That will expose the top image and might negatively affect the other prints still left in the pack. Did you press down on the pack of film at all, or did something accidentally crush the pack before you put it into the camera? Please let me know, and I will gladly help if I can.

Hi Tom and Patrick, Thanks for replying to my post. The rollers are cleans. I checked the rollers from edge to edge and there are no residues or dirt stuck anywhere. What i did was i took one shot and the film shows a big patch in the center, so i thought maybe my camera is not working as its my first pack of film, so i take a second shot and its still the same. So i decided to expose one film to check on the film, i pull out the film pack, already there is a patch of darker brown in the centre which shapes resembles the undeveloped patch. I have cleaned the rollers before inserting the film pack. There are no dirt at all. I did not apply pressure on the pack. I hope my next pack of film will have better results. I really hope that impossible has a camera overhaul service, because the film is from impossible therefore a overhaul of the camera to adjust it to the impossible film will reduce or even remove all the possibilities of any undeveloped or over/underexpose film, resulting in a perfect sx 70 with impossoble film experience. That would be great. I love instant photography, not intax as the film and the camera are not of good quality. Hope impossible will come up with great ideas and bring back instant photography to its glory days, or even a whole new level. Lee.

Hi Lee,

So, if my understanding is correct, after taking one or two shots, you pulled the film pack out of the camera. As you looked at the top frame, you observed that the unexposed frame showed a similar broad spot. This suggests to me that that this is a defective filme pack, or perhaps the film pack was squeezed before you ever received it. In my experience, when I received a defective film pack (in whicch the battery was dead), Impossible replaced the film  pack with another, so I wouldn't be surprised if Impossible does likewise for you.

As to your comments about an overhaul service, I'm only a customer, but I don't imagine that Impossible will offer an Overhaul service. My thinking, though, is that Impossible will continue to improve on its films in the months and years ahead. If you think about it, Polaroid had been in existence 25 years before it introduced the SX-70, and had all of that time to perfect the technology. Impossible has barely been around three years, re-inventing the films from scratch. It's first films were introduce only last year and I have observed significant improvements with each new release.

I'm sure that Patrick will be responding shortly.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to submit a support request to Impossible to ask if they will replace your film pack.

Hi tom,

I recently went back to the local shop for an exchange and took a shot with the new pack of px680. the pictures turned out kind of dark and lack of colors. I think its because it was indoors and not enough lightings around. But at least everything is working fine now. I am happy to see there is some photographic development this time round. Soon i will take it out for a walk and i will post the pictures soon. Thanks everyone for the support. Indeed previously it was a faulty pack. Sadly i discovered impossible too late to be a pioneer. I will still continue to support impossible. Keep up the great work that you guys are doing!

Great thanks to everyone.

Lee.
